Led by Speaker Michael Madigan, the Illinois House voted on Wednesday (by the count of 110-4) to join everyone else by moving our primary to the first Tuesday in February. For you out-of-towners, Madigan has been the state’s most powerful political figure since first becoming Speaker in 1982. Despite reportedly deriding Obama as “the messiah” last summer, Madigan has said he wanted to move up the date to give Obama a boost. But running as a native son is always a risk: how big of a margin does he need for it to be a victory?
The news reports frame this as a victory for Obama.
